Up next is a band called The Eyes — a short-lived but fascinating freakbeat group from Ealing, West London. They originally started out as The Renegades before finding their place in the emerging underground scene under this new name.
‘The Immediate Pleasure’ was their second single, released in 1966 on Mercury Records, backed with ‘My Degeneration’ — a clear nod to The Who. The song caused some trouble with a few radio stations back then: too raw, too much feedback, and a bit too upfront for the BBC.
Today, it’s a sought-after gem for fans of freakbeat and early psychedelic rock. Fuzzy guitars, a striking feedback intro, and a singer who perfectly captured the restless London youth spirit of the mid-sixties.
They didn’t release much more than a handful of singles and the legendary EP ‘The Arrival of the Eyes’, but this track shows exactly why their name still echoes among collectors today. Here are The Eyes with ‘The Immediate Pleasure.
